This wine turned out much better than I expected. At a young age, it was somewhat disjointed and seemingly lacked acidity, but there is no doubting its level of concentration. It has firmed up and lost some of its baby fat, and now reveals plenty of sweet, smoky, leathery black currant fruit, a plush, opulent mouthfeel, and has reached full maturity. The color is starting to brick at the edge of the glass. This complex, rich 1982 is best consumed over the next 5-8 years.

Big surprise. Dark ruby, with a garnet rim. Cassis, berry, tobacco, cherry. Incredibly complex. Full-bodied, incredibly velvety, with masses of fruit, currant, berry, tobacco. Never that highly rated but seriously good.

Chateau Pichon Baron heeft 73 ha. wijngaard in productie, waarvan 45% gebruikt wordt voor de 1e wijn, en de overige 65% voor de 2e wijnen “Les Griffons de Pichon Longueville”en “Les Tourelles de Pichon Longueville. De wijgaard is bepant met 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, en de overige 5% met Cabernet Franc en Petit Verdot.
Château Pichon Longueville BaronGeclassificeerd als 2e groei in 1855. De wijngaard van Pichon Baron (zoals ze hem noemden om hem te onderscheiden van zijn buurman Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande) ligt direct naast Chateau Latour op een van de beste wijngaarden in Pauillac. In de zeventiende eeuw begon Jacques de Pichon Longueville Baron met de bouw van de wijngaard van Pichon-Longueville. De reputatie van de wijn werd een paar jaar later gevestigd. Het huidige kasteel werd in 1851 gebouwd door Raoul de Pichon-Longueville. De wijnen van Château Pichon Baron komen van dit historische landgoed. Resulterend in volle wijn, rijk aan tannines, die worden gekenmerkt door hun finesse en elegantie. Hun lengte in de mond is uitzonderlijk en ze hebben een aanzienlijk verouderingspotentieel.
